In the process of recovery
Rehabilitating a spirit crushed
Building myself up from a broken foundation
The place where a half-built wall once stood
Each day is faced with distraction
No time for contemplation
Each night is faced with eyes wide open
Open until midnight hours
Open until they burn
Open so that I know my brain won’t have time to think
When they are finally closed
I search for an anthem of newness and clean slates
Of forgiveness so I can forget
I seek faces unseen and conversation unheard
Places where my dreamland is safe from pain
And my reality is granted the same
In this process of recovery, my feet will stand
Rooted firmly to the ground
For I have been knocked down for too long
Not to finally pick myself back up again
