At age 11 I began trumpet in the sixth grade and to be honest it was the strangest yet most fascinating object I had ever held in my hands. When I learned how to produce a sound my trumpet became my spaceship. Rhythm and color are its fuel.

    OBJECTIVE
To use my academic musical background and foreign language experience in spanish as a vehicle to teach classical music, jazz, and choral voice (choir), reaching students at all levels, and to teach the skill and ability to play trumpet, clarinet, flute , oboe, baritone, tuba, saxophone, mello-phone, snare, bass drum cymbals and symphonic percussion, timpani and triangle, by focusing on sight reading, tone production and the generation of a solid full sound, original composition, jazz solo transcription and instrumental vocalization of popular trumpet solos, that help build up the students vocabulary.

The students choir vocabulary would come from the repertoire of musical works I was exposed to at Huston Tillotson University 900 chicon street Austin Texas, under the Guidance of Dr. Gloria Quinlan, which would include but not be limited to the following: Cannon in D minor (pachellbell) , Magnificat (pachellbell) The Gloria, Ave Maria, “Elijah Rock” (moses Hogan), “Keep your Lamps Trimmed and a Burning” (moses Hogan), “Get On board ‘Lil’ Chillun’,(moses Hogan), Betlehemu (morehouse college glee club).

As a Music Teacher, and professional classroom instructor, it is my aim as an educator to stimulate and promote learning by agitateing their comfort zone and exposeing the students to a new way of thinking, that will inevitablely as a result make them accountable young men and women who are effective in society. Thus Music is a discipline that is not merely an artform, however it’s a means of conditioning the mind of the students to be able to effectively concentrate on a task, problem solve, evaluate scenarios, think mathematically, apply logic and reasoning, infere conclusions, and acquire a depth of information on a song selection at a glance by knowing a little about the time the the song was wriiten in, the character of the people of the time, the composers first middle and last name, where the composer was from, and when he or she was born ect. , and what was the socio-economic condition of the people that enjoyed music by this composer. Thus you see, it is my job as an educator to use the vehicle of Music to teach my students about life, and how to cultivate lifeskills for a higher quality of life.
