About Artist

Basic Information

  • About me

I have developed a deeply intuitive process by which I am both photographer and female subject. I achieve a stark and elegant aesthetic by holding true to myself as both portrayer and capturer of my particular artistic vision.
I confront myself with truthful intimacy. My images are created in response to life’s urgent flux; to transitions that challenge my identity, sense of balance, and personal relationships. By portraying unease through anomalous body language and paradoxical settings, I interpret fragmented memories and emotional stages in a hauntingly seductive mise-en-scene.
A mysterious conundrum is implied as my idiosyncrasies of the physical and emotional are revealed and pondered, and through which I often confront and contradict obdurate notions of gender, age, and beauty.
Further, I depict intimacy by guarding my personal mystery while simultaneously expressing life’s poignant extremes and anguished longings. As an honest witness to self, I leave the observer with a voyeuristic and visceral narrative visually expressed....a raw observation of a heart pinned to a sleeve, covering worn skin, and fragile bone.

Devin Rachul gained knowledge and respect for multiple artistic disciplines and processes while acquiring an MFA in studio art from Louisiana Tech University. Observing collaborations among the contemporary art community inspired her to work with mixed media collage, painting, and photography as a means of discovering the most effective vehicle to her own creative process. Devin's work continues to remain cognizant of social commentary, thus seeking to acknowledge and express a female perspective regarding intimacy, surreal residue from adolescence and emotional urgency.
Devin allows her training as a studio painter to insightfully inform her photographic work. Her archival prints are made with fine art photo rag and bamboo papers, ranging in scale from approximately 20x30 inches to 30x40 inches.
