Artist Statement
As a dancer-communicator, my focus is to enrich the lives of those who see my choreography. By this, I mean "telling a story" through movement. Not just dancing for the "sake of dance." Whether that is a spiritual, emotional, social or political plight or concern. My experience includes over two decades of training out of Los Angeles, CA, Grambling State University and New York City, NY. I have also choreographed and worked with a number of dance studios, SRAC, dancelines, commericals, plays, universities, movies and churches. I also own and operate Shufflin' Along, LLC, where I teach private lessons, teach dance instruction and produce choreography. With training in African, Jazz, Tap, Modern and Ballet, along with various styles of these genres branching from various parts of the country, this background has enhanced not only my technique but has brought a larger pool of creativity to my works. Young or old, dance is something that everyone can enjoy doing or viewing. Art is more than ordinary significance, it is who we are and the way we live; it is life. Yes, we couldn't be who we are without some form of expression. When done skillfullly, and from the heart, dance can be so powerful and empowering it will make one watching want to join in and partake in the experience. My motto: "If you can walk, you can dance." The way you walk says a lot about who you are; your walk tells and expresses an individual like no other; your walk communicates; your walk dances. -
